The 2023 Tournament

The first Athlone's Finest tournament brought eight teams to Cushla Park in 2023. A brand-new six-a-side day, organised from scratch, and nobody quite knew what to expect. By the final whistle, nobody was asking.

The football set the standard the tournament has been chasing ever since. Forty goals went in across the day, five matches were decided by a single goal, and the atmosphere on the sideline carried every one of them.

When it mattered most, Clowown Rovers held their nerve to become the first champions, putting the first name on the trophy.

What was planned as a one-off day of football made its own case for coming back. Athlone's Finest has run every year since, and it started here.
